Prodeus is a new first-person shooter with a unique look that brings back memories of classic games and has lots to say among modern titles. Prodeus is an indie game that came to life with a Kickstarter campaign and has been in early access for two years. Despite all these difficulties, the final product is an impressive work that breathes new life into Corridor Shooter games.

In Prodeus, you control an unknown agent who has no intention but to destroy the hellish world of the game. The story in this game is a side thing. It’s obvious that the developers just didn’t care much about it! but I don’t think anyone expects an important story from such an indie chaotic game. Usually, in classic games of this genre, like Doom or Quake series, the story is not the main factor similarly.

What makes Prodeus unique is its retro graphics and atmosphere. In this game, developed with the Unity game engine, an attempt has been made to combine modern graphic technologies with the artistic style of the old first-person shooters of the nineties. The result is stunning visuals that are enough detailed that they don’t look old but are designed in such a simple way that they remind us of the good old days. For example, despite the good lighting and great particle effects, two-dimensional sprites are used for the enemies, and the textures of the environments are pixelated.

A new gem for retro gamers

The developers have left the audience’s hand open to change some of the game’s graphics features in the game settings section. The resolution of the game is low by default, but you can change it to Native mode to get rid of the pixelated images. Even 2D sprites can be changed to 3D models. On the music side, you are given the same right to choose to enjoy modern metal music tracks or to play MIDI pieces of music instead. For Those Features, in our thought, developers have worked flawlessly on their artistic goals and the game can receive a perfect score in this section.

I am one of those people who didn’t like the Doom Ethernal game very much. I feel the platforming parts were too much, and the game was sometimes repetitive. On the other hand, some gamers believe that Doom titles have moved away from their famous structures too much. Prodeus will be vastly more enjoyable for me and these gamers.

Prodeus can be considered a modernized Doom from the gameplay point of view. Bloody and fast action in which it is pointless to stand still. This game has the same structure as Bullet Hell and Corridor Shooters which we have seen in the classic first-person games, but it has been able to be more exciting than many new titles with its unique features.

“Guns. Lots of guns.”

First, we must point out that the corridors here will not get repetitive so easily. Indeed, you usually follow a linear path in narrow environments, but the game puts a bigger and more comfortable environment in your way occasionally, which allows you to maneuver better. Also, the levels are not too long, and each new level adds an element to the game’s appearance, which prevents your eyes from tiring.

As you advance through the game, you will see that the game always shows you a new gameplay scenario so that you don’t see yourself in just a mindless game. Plus you can make purchases in between levels, or play challenges to get rewards. All this makes the game always keep varied and you will not get bored. More interesting is that you can experience the game with up to four people Coop.

Along with the clever level design, the game offers a great variety of weapons to choose from and enemies that you have to fight with. All guns usually have two shooting methods and some of them can be used in pairs. Of course, almost any enemy can be defeated with any weapon, but some enemies are easier to kill with a specific one, so you will use different weapons enough until the end of the game.

In Prodeus, there is not only a campaign mode, but various multiplayer modes are also there. But what makes the game’s content richer is that you can create maps and levels for it. It’s only available for PC, But fortunately, these maps are also playable on consoles. Hence, The content is potentially limitless. What’s more interesting is that the game costs only 25 dollars, making it a necessary purchase for interested people. So we gave a complete score to the game’s value. Prodeus is here to remind us what a good FPS shooter game is, don’t miss it.
