UnderDungeon is the child of parents named Legend of Zelda and Undertale. Here you can see some simple graphics of the Undertale combined with the gameplay mechanics of the classic 2D Zelda games. The result is a retro-style indie game that is worth playing. UnderDungeon takes place in a city called Kutopia with humanoid animal citizens. You control Kimuto (a cat!) who has just been chosen as a package delivery man in a company. Each mission is a shipping order that you must deliver to its quirky owner in a dungeon. But this is not so easy. Usually, these dungeons have unique challenges and subplots, which make you always have to go on different adventures after delivering the package. Since monsters have recently appeared in the game world, every delivery man should always be prepared to face enemies.

The game has many humorous characters. Almost all the characters you meet have something funny to say, of course, some have more personality depth than a usual funny person. So the dialogues are interesting, even though they are without understandable sounds. Unlike some similar games, conversations are not that long to bore you. Although UnderDungeon does not have a serious or very long narrative, it manages to provide a fun story experience. Note that the game, despite its apparent similarities with Undertale, is not supposed to have the complex dialogue system of that title.

UnderDungeon
Each part of the map is carefully crafted

UnderDungeon gameplay is precisely similar to the old school role-playing games, especially the Legend of Zelda series on Nintendo consoles. Of course, everything is more modern here. The game has a top-down camera, and you mostly fight monsters or solve various puzzles. The construction of dungeons is diverse, and each stage adds its challenges and puzzles to the gameplay. Especially since you gradually get more powers and skills as you progress.

For example in the first level, your character cannot jump, but as soon as you get this ability in the second level new challenges and of course, new solutions will appear in front of you. By killing enemies and collecting money, you can buy items such as health potions in stores and use them during the game. You can also spend your money playing mini-games to gain more money. The mini-games are also interesting in their own way, especially on the switch, which you can experience them using the Nintendo Switch touch in handheld mode.

The game in terms of controlling the main character is excellent and smooth, but the attacks have slow animations that you should try to get used to. Those smooth animations plus an easy-to-read map, make exploring the environment and turning it upside down to find secrets a pleasure. Although the enemies sometimes become very difficult and interfere with your exploration. However, we cannot say UnderDungeon is a difficult game. Because the enemies do not perform complicated actions. If you are a fan of this genre of games, you have seen many similar enemies to them. You just need to pay attention to the amount of your health and the items to refill it.

UnderDungeon
You have to embrace the simplicity to understand the beauty of this

As we said, UnderDungeon is visually similar to a game like Undertale, but UnderDungeonstill has simpler graphics than that. The game has 1-bit graphics. It means that the background is always black, and everything you see is black and white. Of course, fortunately, the developer has been able to carefully make the pixel art so that those white objects are all distinguishable from each other. Therefore, we say Underdungeon’s art is simply admirable.

The final thing to mention is that UnderDungeon has an affordable price. You can get it on multiple platforms for just under fourteen dollars. Even the game on the Nintendo Switch has a great discount and is only two dollars for now. This price makes the game much more valuable, especially since in our opinion Underdungeon has been one of the most entertaining indie titles of 2023 and one of the best games by its publisher, RedDeer.Games so far.
