BROK the InvestiGator is a point-and-click game released for PC several months ago. It’s now available for consoles, and we’ve reviewed it based on the PlayStation 4 version. The main feature of this game on PlayStation consoles is the use of the controller touch as some sort of alternative for the mouse.

BROK the InvestiGator takes place in an almost dystopian world that is, in the developer’s words, “light cyberpunk”. In most of the game, you control a private detective whose have a rough life. He ironically named Broke. The game starts suddenly in a critical situation and introduces its mechanics in a hurry. It could have been an exciting start for the story, but by this sequence’s end, you realize it was all a dream. From now on, you get off to a slow start, to get to know the characters and the world around you.

Fortunately, the game is fully voiced, and interacting with others and talking to them is interesting. Also, due to the charming cartoonish visuals, just exploring the environment is cool. It’s even fun to give an unrelated item from your inventory to different characters to see how they react. However, it takes some time for the story to show you its compelling and engaging side. Of course, this is not unbearable for fans of this style of an adventure game. this genre always requires patience.

Map of the world you are in

BROK the InvestiGator is a classic title that has been added with action and role-playing elements in order not to smell old. That is something like collecting items or combining them and using them to solve puzzles, etc. are the main things you must do. But in the field of action, it is wrong if we want it to be a deep side-scrolling action game. We also believe the same about role-playing elements that improve your fighting abilities.

The developer only included these things to give the game some degree of variety, and You can even skip the fighting. So, while stressing that the combat does not have much depth, firstly, it must be admitted that the game’s controls are smooth, and secondly, that the action sequences have been able to fulfill their task of adding a little freshness to the game well. Also, the Brok being a boxer can be used in solving puzzles.

The game has a fiery start that quickly dies down

The game is not very difficult. The core adventure gameplay is pretty standard and fun. You can see the interactive parts of the environment by holding a button, so you don’t need to hunt for pixels. On the other hand, with a little searching, you can collect hidden items to use as hints in solving puzzles. Unfortunately, in some cases, these hints point to some obvious things that are not useful for you. But anyway, there is always a clue to show you the way. You only have to pay enough attention to details and dialogue.

Note that according to the dialogues you choose, the game has several different endings, which, as well as the dynamic nature of solving the puzzles, add replay value to the game. If you love point-and-click games, this title will definitely be interesting to you, but it should not be considered a side-scrolling action game.
