Let’s start by saying that De-Exit – Eternal Matters is a great game for a $20 Price. Especially if you love old adventure titles such as Classic Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia games. De-Exit has been able to bring to life the type of games that are infrequently paid attention to nowadays. In De-Exit, your character is a silent skeleton who has just entered the world of the dead. This unique world is created based on the developers’ mindsets and not religious texts and is different from many other similar creations that you may have seen. A world that looks like a fairy tale, but there is technology in it, and according to one of the game’s characters, it might be a computer simulator that its inhabitants don’t know about!

Alone in the dark

One of the best features of this game is that it can convey different emotions well in different situations. This variety makes it easy not to get bored of the place. Most times, loneliness in a gloomy world is the main feeling, but this situation changes sometimes so that you can take a break. Therefore, you can witness happiness, fear, and hope all over the game too. This admirable atmosphere is at the same time minimalistic. The game is similar to a story-driven Minecraft due to its voxel graphics. But the lighting, the cinematic cut scenes, and of course impressive music have made the game look artistically higher than something like Minecraft. Although it should be noted that the game sometimes has frame drops.

Although the game setting is very captivating and the developer has touched on the sensitive issue of life and death, the story is straightforward and follows the recurring theme of saving the world by a chosen one. Of course, this is not necessarily a problem, but in general, we cannot say that the story is that impressive. Especially since it is a bit difficult to establish an emotional relationship with the characters who are all skeletons and whose faces do not show much emotion. However, at least because of the acceptable Lore and the existence of a standard narrative, we can easily say that the story is not bad at all.
The gameplay of De-Exit focuses on platforming and solving various puzzles. The core gameplay is what we have come to expect from old Tomb Raider games. Platformer gameplay is not fast except when a boss wants to catch you or a specific event happens. It is mostly solving puzzles and exploring the environment that will keep the mind of the audience busy.

Stealth adventure

Many times you have to move an object, activate a switch or reach a certain point by passing complex obstacles. Fortunately, while the puzzles are not so difficult that they become confusing and slow down the pace, they are diverse, and their various mechanics make you first take a look around so that you can get a sufficient understanding of your solution. One of the elements of the gameplay that has diversified the game is hiding and escaping from enemies. This means that sometimes you have to escape from enemies during flashy scenes, and sometimes you have to survive by crawling behind covers or hiding in the bushes. Usually staying hidden while passing other challenges adds a layer of excitement to the game.

An important drawback to the game is its camera. Unfortunately, like many other third-person games, the camera sometimes gets stuck in the environment or does not follow you properly. On the other hand, the animations of the main character and controlling it are not pleasing, and it always feels like it is floundering and going in an incorrect direction. Despite being an indie game and having a low price, De-Exit is a rich, beautiful, and impactful product that must be played. We just hope the developers can fix the camera and the character movement with an update. They hurt the smoothness of the game experience.
