Worms game series has never been AAA titles with huge budgets, but they have always managed to maintain their fan base. Therefore, even though nearly thirty years have passed since the release of the original game, new versions of it are still coming to the market. The latest one is the port of Worms W.M.D., which has been made available with the Mobilize name extension for Android and iOS operating systems. This game has not changed much compared to the past. Only some user interfaces and other details have been changed, so if you have tried the original version, this mobile game is not going to be for you.

As usual, the game is focused on gameplay. You are not going to see a particular story, so you are not supposed to have any motivation other than to kill a bunch of cute worms! Of course, Even campaign levels do not have an exact order and you can play them in any order you like. Just the initial levels are easier to win. The game has a training section that introduces you to the old mechanics of this series and of course newer features such as the use of military vehicles. This educational section is very detailed and can introduce a novice to the world of worms. But it can be said that the campaign mode itself is a kind of training. That is, the game puts you in different maps and scenarios so that you can beat your opponent in multiplayer mode. You also have a detailed section to customize your worms so that when you want to play in multiplayer, your team will have its unique personality.

Your multiplayer options

One of the interesting parts of the game is the maps that are created in a hand-drawn style and have good details. But there is no visual harmony between these maps with other visual elements such as the user interface and the worms themselves. One looks hand-drawn and artistic, and the other is simple and cartoonish. In general, the graphics are nice, but it is mostly the physics that shines during the gameplay, especially during exploding. Note that you can choose between three graphic modes: low, medium, and high, which cause you to have a smooth game on mid-range phones too. But if you have an older phone, you will have problems running the game.

Let’s go back to the topic of gameplay. This is a turn-based tactical game in which you have a limited time to do what you want in each round, and after something like shooting the enemy, your turn ends. This is the basis of the game, but what method you use to destroy the most enemies in one turn is decisive for you. The game has a long list of weapons and tools, some of which are specific to this title. To get to know this tool gradually, it is better to finish the game once and then go to the multiplayer mode.

You can change the on-screen virtual controller position

A severe problem in the mobile version is the lack of proper use of touch controls. Game control is one of the main weaknesses of this mobile version. Of course, the best way to experience such a game requires the use of a mouse on a PC. But on mobile, the developers have preferred to implement on-screen virtual controls for basic actions such as shooting and walking. While they could use more touchscreen controls for things like aiming and navigating. Here the game’s controls prevent you from having a smooth experience and because you have a time limit to do your work, it will reduce your chance of winning too.

Fans of Worms games, especially old 2D versions like Armageddon, will also like W.M.D: Mobilize, but if you have other platforms besides mobile phones, it is better to play the game on them. Alternatively, you can connect a Bluetooth controller to your mobile phone and play the game much more comfortably. The game costs only 6 dollars, and it’s a great price to have hours of fun.
