Cult of the Lamb is a roguelike indie game that was released a few months ago for all platforms and succeeded to attract the attention of people and critics at the same time. Now, according to the game’s roadmap, the publisher has released a free and rich update called Relics of the Old Faith. Since we have not published a review for the game on our website before, we will first take a look at the game itself and then we will look at the contents of the update. Although it is referred to as a roguelike, the game is something far beyond that. The amount of fun activities that you do in this game is so diverse and they can entertain you for about thirty hours without realizing how much time you have spent. In addition to combat (which we will discuss later), this game is also a management and simulation game.

The story is about the last lamb on earth, which is sacrificed by the followers of some creatures who have their own cult. But he is returned to life by a being, with the condition that the lamb himself forms a cult, gathers followers, and destroys the enemies of this being. You get a base that you and your followers live in. So you must upgrade and expand it. At the beginning of the game, you have to do more mundane tasks, but the more you progress through the game, you can use your followers and put them to more work.
When you see that the appearance and performance of the cult are improving day by day always, it motivates you to keep making it better. In this way, you gradually become the manager and leader of your base. But it may be argued that considering the smallness of the empty grounds at your disposal, everything will seem too crowded after the cult grows. There are lots of things to do before any fighting. You can play minigames or stay in your base as long as you want and fight enemies whenever you want. It’s you who makes the pacing to your liking. You can relax after a hard battle and focus not so breathtaking tasks.
As we said, this game is basically a roguelike, which means that most participate in crusades. You enter maps that are divided into sections, and each section contains a series of sub-sets. You are not supposed to go through all those sections to get to the boss fight, but you have to choose the next section you go to. Therefore, for example, if you have ten sections on the map, you will probably visit five of them in one game round. Of course, the map is completely procedural generated, and every time you visit the game, you will be faced with random paths.

Your powers and skills are random too and you have to find them in your crusades. You will find cards that usually improve your stats too. Hence the crusades are neither too long nor too complicated. You are not going to be able to have many play styles. This may not be pleasant for hardcore Roguelike fans, but it will make the game easier for those who are less familiar with this type of game. Especially since the combats are smooth and can be done with only three buttons. Your character has fast and fluid movements that make it a pleasure to control him, but remember that the enemies are quick too.
Artistically, Cult of the Lamb is contradictory but adorable and eye-catching. On one side, you control or manage a series of cute and funny animal characters that you can even change their color and appearance to your favorite, while they are evil beings. On the other side, the visuals are cartoonish with detailed 2D hand-drawn models but the environment is wicked. This makes the game hilarious.
As we said, the game has received a free update that adds content to the game. In fact, in addition to fixing bugs, there are many settings, decorative and functional items, enemies, skills, etc. That has been added. Plus, you will also see a new storyline that you will have access to after finishing the main game plot. Add all this to the fact that the game costs only 25 dollars and since it has been released for a while, it is also available with various discounts. Of course, more content for the game is still going to be released in 2023. These add to the value and make the Cult of the Lamb a convenient choice.
