Top Retro Style Indie Games
Independent games made in the retro style always have a special place in the hearts of some of us. These games remind us of childhood nostalgic memories. In that era, games were still in their early days and we were surprised to see any new mechanics in a game; For this article, we introduce new games that are just like good old retro titles.

Sonic Mania
This game is a spin-off of the Sonic series. For the first time, the development of a Sonic game was not done by Sega. They were only responsible for publishing. The game was made by a 2D game engine, which, despite being new, works with sprites and produces output similar to Sega Mega Drive games. In Sonic Mania, memorable stages have been recreated, and on the other hand, new locations and music tracks have been introduced. The game has the same speed and excitement expected from Sonic gameplay. Secret ways and famous characters of Sonic series are also returned in this title.

The Messenger
This game was developed based on the NES games of the Ninja Gaiden series; this is even mentioned within the game itself. In The Messenger, even the hero animations are designed similar to the 2D Ninja Gaiden games. This game is more difficult than retro Ninja Gaidens, so a checkpoint system allows you to try different parts of the levels over and over again until you finally pass them.

UnMetal
This is a stealth action game full of humor. The game is made just like the 2D versions of the Metal Gear series, but its developers have not taken anything about the story seriously. There is a joke about everything in every moment of the game. Thankfully the game has voice dialogues, unlike the old Metal Gear games. Fortunately, the game is not as slow as Mr. Kojima’s retro games, and the actions and control of the hero are very smooth and easy. UnMetal also has more mechanics than the classic Metal Gears, but all of them fit perfectly with the seemingly aged structure of the gameplay.

Streets of Rage 4
It took decades to finally be able to play a new official version of the Streets of Rage series. Of course, the fans themselves had produced games based on this series in the form of personal projects. But finally, after Sega’s success in outsourcing Sonic Mania, they decided to entrust the creation of the fourth part of the Streets of Rage to a smaller and independent group, and they did it successfully. The game has very nice cartoonish art that is different from the previous games. However, the gameplay is very similar to Streets of Rage 2.

Blazing Chrome
We never thought we would see the most similar game to Contra: Hard Corps in a title apart from the Contra series. Blazing Chrome performs the same or even better than the Contra games in all aspects except its uninspiring music. This game is harder than Contra: Hard Corps, So you may think who might be able to finish this game! Superior pixel art, excellent and breathtaking action, and complex bosses are some of the obvious and admirable features of Blazing Chrome.
